SRARP Archaeological Compliance-Fiscal Year 2000


The SRARP compliance program investigated 90 archaeological sites during FY2000. Fifty-five are newly recorded and include 28 prehistoric sites, 14 historic sites, and 13 sites with both prehistoric and historic components. The 35 revisits included 20 prehistoric sites, 4 historic sites and 11 sites with both prehistoric and historic components. Fifty-eight isolated artifact occurrences also were recorded during FY2000. Of these, 10 were historic artifacts and 50 consisted of prehistoric artifacts.

The SRARP surveyed a total of 4,483 acres in FY2000 for 11 Site Use Applications and eight Timber Compartment Prescriptions. Altogether 5,175 STPs were excavated to locate sites and delineate boundaries. Categorized, this includes 2,302 Site Use transect STPs, 684 previous site redefinition STPs, 476 isolated artifact occurrence STPs, and 13 judgmental STPs. Sixty-one percent (2745 acres) of total survey area for all projects in FY2000 involved SR-88 Site Use Permit Application projects. The remaining 39 percent (1,738 acres) of the total area survey for all projects in FY2000 involved Timber Compartment Forest Stands slated for harvesting.
